Love – (ἀγαπάω – Greek) – agapaó ► love, wish well to, take pleasure in, long for; denotes the love of reason, esteem, agapé is not based on emotions or feelings but is an act of the will, characterized by a commitment to the well-being of others.
► God’s Love – God intellectually understands man’s fallen, sinful nature and chose to sacrifice His Son, Jesus to provide a substitute payment for the penalty of sin and provide an imputed righteousness to satisfy true justice – Rom 3:23-24, 25; 5:8-9, 6:23,
► Man’s love of darkness – Man intellectually and willfully loves darkness, rebelling against God and the light. This produces hatred for God and His representatives. Man despises God’s planned solution.
rather (μᾶλλον – Greek) – mallon ► instead of, involves prioritizing or ranking to elevate the better over the good, or bad, i.e. the higher priority (the more important) over the less-important. In John 3:19, it can be antithetical to or opposed to God’s approach – John 12:42-43; Acts 4:19-20;
