Treasured – (συντηρέω – Greek) ► suntéreó – To preserve, to keep, to maintain, to guard closely, to keep in mind, From σύν (sun, meaning “with”) and τηρέω (téreó, meaning “to keep” or “to guard”), carefully preserving or keeping something intact
Pondering – (συμβάλλω – Greek) ► To consider, to ponder, to confer, to meet, to encounter, From σύν (syn, “together”) and βάλλω (ballo, “to throw”), describes the act of pondering or considering something deeply, often in a reflective or meditative manner. It can also refer to the act of conferring or discussing with others, as well as encountering or meeting. Luke 14:31;.
▪︎ Luke 2:51 – Mary also treasured things Jesus did later in life:
Treasured – (διατηρέω – Greek) ► diatéreó – To keep, to preserve, to maintain, keep safe, hold fast, from διά (dia, meaning “through” or “thoroughly”) intensifying τηρέω (téreó, meaning “to keep” or “to guard”), thoroughly keeping or preserving something with care and attention. – Acts 15:28, 29;
Ps 139:17-18 – David did 2 similar things:
Precious – (יָקַר – Hebrew) – yaqar ► To be precious, to be rare, to be valuable, to be esteemed, honored. Isa 43:4;
Sum – (רֹאשׁ – Hebrew) – ro’sh ► Head, chief, top, beginning, leader, from an unused root meaning to shake, hierarchy, and possibly priority. 1Chron 8:28;
Count – (סָפַר – Hebrew) – caphar ► to score with a, mark as a, tally, record, to inscribe, to enumerate, to recount, celebrate, also extends to recounting or relating information, often in the sense of declaring or telling a story. Recounting God’s deeds was a form of worship and remembrance, reinforcing communal identity and faith. Exod 24:3; 1Chron 16:24; Ps 26:7, 48:12-14;
Ps 139:17-18 – David was less secure about God’s ongoing presence than Mary, when he said “I am still with You”. Believers in Christ can have assurance of His continued presence in our lives – Heb 13:5; John 14:16;
