Titus 3:5-15 – The Hope of Eternal Life – Answers

       5He saved us, not on the basis of deeds which we have done in righteousness, but according to His mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewing by the Holy Spirit, 6whom He poured out upon us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior, 7so that being justified by His grace we would be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life. 8This is a trustworthy statement; and concerning these things I want you to speak confidently, so that those who have believed God will be careful to engage in good deeds. These things are good and profitable for men. 9But avoid foolish controversies and genealogies and strife and disputes about the Law, for they are unprofitable and worthless. 10Reject a factiousI man after a first and second warning, 11knowing that such a man is perverted and is sinning, being self-condemned.
      12When I send Artemas or Tychicus to you, make every effort to come to me at Nicopolis, for I have decided to spend the winter there. 13Diligently help Zenas the lawyer and Apollos on their way so that nothing is lacking for them. 14Our people must also learn to engage in good deeds to meet pressing needs, so that they will not be unfruitful.
      15All who are with me greet you. Greet those who love us in the faith.

2. If salvation is by grace alone, what are we called to do for our own Spiritual growth and sanctification?
▪︎ Sanctification is by grace alone… same as salvation.
▪︎ God initiates the process of sanctification and manages the time table… He calls us to be sanctified and we accept it by faith – Gal_3:1-4
      1You foolish Galatians, who has bewitched you, before whose eyes Jesus Christ was publicly portrayed as crucified? 2This is the only thing I want to find out from you: did you receive the Spirit by the works of the Law, or by hearing with faith? 3Are you so foolish? 3. Titus 3:10 gives an example of something to avoid. What are we to avoid? List other things to avoid. Why are these warnings important?

▪︎ Factious men should be avoided. Heretics, false teachers, etc.
▪︎ Others can be a problem but if they are not spreading false doctrine, they can be tolerated.
▪︎ Per other passages it is always good to practice safe church discipline.

4. Titus 3:8, 14 calls for God’s children to engage in good works. What are the tools that God has provided for us to accomplish this work?

▪︎ Engage = manage, stand before, lead as a true spiritual leader, a shepherd.
▪︎ Spirit controlled, with the mind of Christ – 1Cor 2:12, 16;
▪︎ As sheep in the midst of wolves – Matt 7:15; 10:16; Acts 20:29;
▪︎ This is something that should be done in a consistent manner and taught to the entire church – Col 1:28-29;
▪︎ Train them in how to have true fellowship, walking in the grace of God, function as an intimate body of Christ – 2Tim 4:2;
